Founded in Chiang Mai by Natta, ‘jibberish’ is from the word ‘Gibberish’. The word means meaningless speech or nonsense. It can explain the kinds of things people love, items which are imperfect and kitsch. In her work processes, Natta tries to use more hands and less machines. This may mean nothing to some people, but there’re also a number of people who appreciate handmade items without any significance.
Since she was young, she wore her mother’s handmade clothes and saw her making many things by herself for her family. She then realized how wonderful items are when put together by the busy fingers and a caring mind.Currently, Jibberish works on a diversity of crafts including indigo dyed clothing, jewelries, wooden decorative trinkets and stationery.
In this workshop, Natta will introduce the unique chemistry of indigo, the principles of setting up and caring for a natural vat as well as a few of the Shibori (tie dye) techniques.
Participants will get to dye and bring home two pieces of work, a square scarf and a sling bag.
